Health and Environment
The European Commission has confirmed that DINP poses no risk to either human health or the environment from any current use. The European Commission’s findings resulted from a risk assessment involving more than 10 years of extensive scientific evaluation by EU regulators.
Furthermore, the risk assessment concluded that DINP is not hazardous under any of the EU classification categories.
In order to try to ensure that chemicals in end-products do not adversely effect our health and safety or the environment, the plasticiser industry has spent more than €130 million on research during more than 50 years of safe production and use, making phthalates one of the best evaluated groups of substances.
Although minimal amounts phthalates can migrate out of PVC flooring for example, during and after cleaning, the amount which is lost to the environment is negligible.
DINP is not an endocrine disrupter by any of the existing definitions for substances that can be considered to have human endocrine disrupting effects. It is also not a human carcinogen and has never been classified as such by The World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
The European Union has confirmed that DINP is safe in all of its current uses and applications.
