Research
Phthalate plasticisers like DINP are among the most well researched of all chemical substances.
During more than 50 years of safe use the plasticiser industry has spent more than €130 million on phthalate research to ensure that they do not adversely effect our health, safety or the environment.
A significant part of this research addresses the intrinsic properties of DINP, e.g. its possible adverse physical, health or environmental effects.
This research has already been examined as part of the EU risk assessment process and it will be used as part of the registration process for DINP under the EU's new chemical legislation, REACH.
The wealth of scientific data that now exists allows the industry's trade association, the European Council for Plasticisers and Intermediates (ECPI), to provide valuable input to legislative and regulatory authorities, non-government organisations and consumer groups.
ECPI continues to conduct and commission its own research and maintains constant contact with the manufacturing companies which rely upon plasticisers like DINP in the production of such everyday items as plastic medical products, flooring, wallcovering, toys, stationery and electrical cable.
